Antony Gormley: Asian Field
Runs Friday 28 Oct 2005 thru Sunday 11 December 2005, 10.00am ? 6.00pm daily, including public holidays. At the Earl Lu Gallery, Lasalle-SIA. Admission is free.

Acknowledged as a key work in contemporary sculpture, Antony Gormley's Field series questions the relationship between art, society and the environment. In the collaborative process of its making, the series has expanded art from being a form of self-expression to one of collective consciousness. Asian Field is the most ambitious project, over four times larger than any of its predecessors. Following its first exhibition in Guangzhou, Asian Field has been exhibited in several cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai, as well as Incheon, Korea, before its exhibition in Singapore.

The 190,000 clay figures were made, under the guidance of the artist, by 350 people of all ages from Xiangshan village, northeast of Guangzhou, China. The instructions given were simple – hand-sized and easy to hold, with eyes deep and close together. The figures form a field that completely invades the space in which they are installed, rejecting physical interaction with the viewer whilst allowing visual access. In 'Field', the viewer is forced to experience art in a different way. One's gaze is an open field made up of gazes that look back. The viewer literally becomes the work's subject. Posted by Picasa

Golly, they look like gigantic ginger-bread man on this shot... Kinda like the one from Shrek... All that's missing are the black-current eyes & the gum-drop buttons. Posted by Picasa

My doodle of the l'il clay man... Spot it on the wall if you visit the exhibition... Ha ha ha... Posted by Picasa
